who we are

In the spring of 2008, thanks to Peggy Barrett (Cork City Libraries) and Dr Alana James (University Teacher and Researcher), a new writers' group, Cork Non-Fiction Writers (CNFW), was born.

Between 2012 and 2018, the CNFW published three books and one booklet; the latter in 2018, to celebrate our 10-year anniversary. One of the books is bilingual (English and French) and one is tri-lingual (adding Gaelic to the list).

Over the years, our members have been regularly invited to contribute to various events taking place in Cork such as the Lifelong Learning Festival, Culture Night, Heritage week and, more recently, the Cork Bloomsday Festival.

Public readings have always been a bonus for the writers. Many of our members have published in journals and newspapers and have been successfully placed or listed in a variety of writing and poetry competitions. Several have also published their own works and some are giving presentations of their research, sometimes as tour guides as well.

In 2018, our blog changed to:   corknonfictionwriters.blogspot.com

After the pandemic, the group evolved into a collective (now CNFWC).
Our collective has become a regular contributor to the annual West Cork Literary Festival, with a day-time open mic.

In recent years, we also introduced informal outings as additional opportunities to inspire the writers.
